Nevertheless, the issue of whether or not one requires more commodities than basic needs to be happier, remains a matter of discussion. Therefore, this essay argues that we actually need more commodities to be happier. To begin with, possessing more commodities such as more money, elegant house, ambient cars and enough variety of food, will lessen worries and stress in the life of a person. Individuals who are well endowed with commodities are able to eat well, easily pay bills and treat themselves at will (Levy, 2009). This way, add-ons suc h as, posh cars, classy clothes and elegant houses tend to generate elation and contentment as compared to what possessing mere basic commodities would achieve in terms of creating happiness. Indeed, more commodities than basic needs form a complete recipe to make an individual happier. Secondly, having more commodities creates more time for leisure and clemency. For instance, owning a car means that one can always carry his/her family along to vacation. Also, possessing a fully furnished house would mean that the family has items and comfort necessary to make them happier. Furthermore, rich individuals do not spend much time toiling thus, they have enough time to engage in things that make them happier (Levy, 2009). On the contrary, those who merely possess basic commodities have less time to enjoy life as they spend most of their looking for more wealth hence, they find life stressful and boring. To some extent, some people find life more comfortable with basic commodities than it is with add-ons. They believe that possessing more commodities endangers the life of an individual by attracting robbers, beggars as well as hatred. Therefore, rich people live in anxiety as well as feeling insecure most of the time. In most cases one will find that rich people use part of their money or possession to hire security and to win love from those who hate them. Charles Evans Hughes once states,† When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.† In the story Harrison Bergeron, written by Kurt Vonnegut, that statement is repeatedly challenged and is portrayed as false in this â€Å"equal† utopia. A government tried to create an equal society by giving everyone specific handicaps. The handicaps brought the citizens to a certain bar of intelligence, athletics, and beauty. People such as Harrison Bergeron strongly disagreed with the law, and he even tried rebelling, but then got shot down. Does this sound like an equal utopia to you? Is this truly what equality is? Though she did have a horrible memory, she did not constantly lose her memory. When Hazel and George were having a deep conversation about how taking off their handicaps would damage the society’s structure, George was the only one that lost his memory.
